Proverbs 25:3 (NLT)
“No one can discover the height of heaven, the depth of the earth, or all that goes on in the king’s mind!”
The Boundary of Brilliance
One of the most compelling reasons to trust the Lord is captured in this verse: there are things that simply will not be made known to man. We are finite; He is infinite. As Deuteronomy 29:29 says, “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the revealed things belong to us.” If you are frustrated because you can’t figure out your next step, or because people have “pegged” you based on your past, remember this: they don’t know what’s going on in the King’s mind concerning you! People cannot calculate your worth because they don’t have access to your Creator’s private counsel. You may have a past, and there may be natural consequences for your choices, but God is not confined to man’s minuscule understanding. He is doing things in the “secret places” of your life that will eventually blow your own mind.
The Practice
LIving in the Unknown
1. The Discretion of the Spirit
Stop telling everybody your business! Some of us talk too much and too soon. If God showed you something in private, it might be for your preparation, not your publication. If He didn’t tell you to tell it, be quiet. Some people don’t mean you any good, and others simply lack the capacity to understand a “King-level” secret. You will know when it’s time to speak because, like Jeremiah, it will feel like fire shut up in your bones. Until then, hold your peace.
2. Trust Without an Explanation
God is not obligated to explain Himself, but you are commanded to trust Him. We must push to know God better every day, but we must also become comfortable with His silence. Leaning on your own understanding is a trap; leaning on His character is a fortress.
3. Shut Your Eyes to See
When the world looks out of sorts, shut your physical eyes and let your spiritual eyes take over. When the news was bad, Hezekiah turned his face to the wall—he literally shut out the world to face the Father. When things look bad, step back, shut the world off, and look at Abba. Let Him reassure you that He hasn’t just “got the situation”—He’s got you.
Today’s Declaration
“I celebrate the secret things of God. I don’t have to understand the King’s mind to trust the King’s heart. I will practice discretion with my dreams and discipline with my doubts. When my physical eyes see chaos, I will close them and fix my spiritual gaze on the Father, who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all I can think or imagine.”
If you could explain everything God is doing, He wouldn’t be God. Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
