Proverbs 1:5-6 (NLT)
“Let those who are wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. And let those who understand receive guidance by exploring the depth of meaning in these proverbs, parables, wise sayings, and riddles.”
Don’t Stay Small
In times past, “prudence” was an encouragement to grow, yet today we often settle for being petty. To be petty is to remain simple-minded—it’s not that you can’t learn, it’s that you’ve chosen not to grow. It is a refusal to move beyond your current state of understanding.
Wisdom is not a “one-night stand”; it is a lifelong affair. To graduate from pettiness, you must remain a student and stay coachable. Life’s lessons are everywhere—in the wisdom of an elderly master, the innocence of a child, the high of a success, or the sting of a failed plan. As long as you have breath, you must be available for growth. Pettiness is the ceiling that keeps you from your calling. It’s time to break through.
The Practice:
Moving into the “Exceedingly Abundantly”
1. The Humility of Elevation
Humility is the only ladder that leads out of pettiness. The follower of Christ is challenged to submit their own will and their own “feelings” to the will of God. You cannot be elevated to a new level if you are still clinging to your old ego.
2. Commitment over Compliance
Stop just “complying” with God’s rules and start being committed to His Heart. Compliance is insincere; it always keeps a “backdoor” or an escape hatch open so you can bail out when things get uncomfortable. Commitment, however, eliminates the possibility of backing out. It is the choice to be “sold out” to godliness. Only when you are “All In” will you find the Great Gain.
3. Expect the Unexpected
Let God out of the “box” of your comprehension! Stop trying to fit the Creator of the Universe into the narrow space of what you can understand. He wants to take you beyond all you could ever ask or think. You’ve done it “your way” up until this moment—now dare to step into the Greater. Quit hanging onto your excuses and your self-centered wants. To a God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills, our small-mindedness isn’t just a mistake—it’s petty!
Today’s Fresh Start
Today’s Declaration:
“I am graduating from the petty today. I refuse to stay simple-minded or stuck in my old ways of thinking. I am closing the ‘escape hatch’ of compliance and stepping into a total commitment to the King. I am letting God out of the box of my understanding, and I am preparing for the ‘exceedingly abundantly’ future He has for me. No more excuses—only elevation!”
You can’t walk into a ‘Big Future’ with a ‘Small Mind.’ Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
