The Wake-Up Call

 Proverbs 6:9-11 (NLT)
“But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up? A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—and poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.”

Let’s GO! Time to Get Up!

Laziness makes you an unsuspecting victim of time. When time is squandered, the lazy person finds themselves unable to rectify their situation because they haven’t set aside the resources necessary to meet their needs. This is the definition of being unwise.
Consider the power of Compounding Interest. The fuel of compounding is Time. It is virtually impossible to “catch up” late in the game if you haven’t been investing your gifts, skills, talent, and treasure early on. But here is the joy of the believer: Jesus Christ paid our greatest debt a long time ago. When we accept Him, we receive an inheritance that pays our sin debt in full and guarantees an abundant life. However, that abundance requires us to be awake! Solomon asks the two questions that every “sluggard” must answer: How long will you sleep? and When will you wake up?

The Practice:

Taking Command of the Day

1. Put First Things First
Your work is effortless (and often fruitless) if Christ is not first. Matthew 6:33 commands us to seek His Kingdom first. Unless Christ is the priority of your schedule, your prayer, your giving, and your faith-sharing, you are simply wasting the time He gave you. Put Him first, and the “compounding interest” of His favor will handle the rest.
2. Inspect What You Expect
Don’t stop asking questions! We often “have not” because we “ask not.” You are the only thing that limits your reach. While it is true that we can do all things through Christ, we are still the ones who have to do the “doing.” Inspect your habits, audit your schedule, and ask God for the strategy to maximize your potential.
3. Take Command of the Narrative
Poverty and scarcity will take charge of your life if you don’t. We have been given power over this world, but we must possess it. Don’t wait for a “bandit” to pounce; make a plan today. Saturate that plan in prayer, put it into immediate action, and praise God without ceasing as you work. You are the commander of your “Now.”

Today’s Declaration:

“I am resigning from the ‘Spirit of the Slumber’ today! I refuse to let the bandit of poverty steal my future through my own laziness. I am putting Christ first, taking command of my time, and investing my talents with urgency. I am awake, I am alert, and I am moving in the authority of the Kingdom. Let’s GO!”

Poverty pounces on the sleeper, but Provision follows the worker. Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
