Proverbs 14:7 (ESV)
“Leave the presence of a fool, for there you do not meet words of knowledge.”

The Cost of Wasted Breath

Have you ever realized that you are pouring energy into a situation that refuses to improve? Have you ever had someone “talk your ear off,” only for you to realize all you’ve gained is a headache and a loss of momentum? Time is the one thing you can never get or give back. Solomon warns us here that being in the presence of a fool actually “dumbs you down.” There is no knowledge there, only a drain on your divine resources.
Often, we continue to enable people because we are seeking our own significance. We string people along because it makes us feel “needed,” but in reality, we aren’t helping them—we are enabling their dysfunction and stalling our own destiny. Whether it is family or associates, you must recognize when a dialogue has become a dead end. Wasted time is not just a mistake; it is poor stewardship of a God-given asset.

The Practice:

The Stewardship of the Second

1. Appraise Your Value
Decide today that you and your time are valuable. God made you unique; there is not another version of you on the planet. Therefore, your time is expensive. Before you engage in a lengthy dialogue, ask the hard question: Is this conversation glorifying God, and is it for my good? If the answer is no, you are overpaying for the interaction.
2. Kingdom Purpose Audit
Look for God’s purpose in every moment. Is what you are doing right now advancing a Kingdom cause, or is it just a convenient excuse to avoid the difficult, important work God has actually assigned to you? We often hide in “busy-work” with foolish people to avoid the “weighty-work” of our calling.
3. Mastering the “Holy Shut-Down”
Do not feel bad about shutting down a dialogue or walking away. You are not obligated to stay in a presence where God’s knowledge is absent. Walking away from a fool is an act of obedience and stewardship. You aren’t being mean; you are being a manager of the life God entrusted to you.
4. Move with the Momentum
Be obedient to God’s movement. When the Holy Spirit signals that a season or a conversation is over, MOVE. Do not linger at the “Door of the Fool” hoping they will change. Your instructions are to leave, not to linger.

Today’s Declaration:

“I am resigning from the ‘Enabler’s Committee’ today! I refuse to waste my expensive time on dialogues that lead to nowhere. I recognize that my time is a Kingdom resource, and I choose to invest it only where knowledge is found. I am letting go of my need to be needed, and I am walking away from every foolish presence to run toward my divine purpose. I am a steward of my seconds!”

You can’t catch your future if you’re still holding onto a fool’s ear. Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
