The Reflected Verdict

Proverbs 17:5 (NLT)
“Those who mock the poor insult their Maker; those who rejoice at the misfortune of others will be punished.”

The Defilement of the Design

At the end of the day, what is on trial is your character. The Kingdom demands that we operate with high moral excellence, yet our maturity is rarely tested by how we treat those who bless us; it is tested by how we react to those who are broken. To mock another person, particularly the poor or less fortunate, is to directly insult God. Why? Because every human being is stamped with the Imago Dei—the image of God (Genesis 1:26).
This divine blueprint includes the people who are currently doing you an injustice. Taking pleasure in someone else’s demise, downfall, or suffering exposes a severely fractured character. Scripture goes so far as to warn us that if we throw a party over an enemy’s pain, we risk inviting that exact judgment upon ourselves. As Proverbs 24:17-18 declares: “Do not rejoice when your enemies fall into trouble… For the LORD will be displeased with you and will turn his anger away from them.” When you gloat, you shift God’s focus from correcting their conduct to punishing your pride.

The Practice:

The Witness Walk

1. The Volatility of the Earthly Plane
Understand that circumstances can shift as abruptly as the weather. On this earth, you can be at the top of the mountain in one moment and find yourself at the bottom of the valley in the next. These fleeting conditions might stem from your own choices, or they may arise from systemic factors beyond your control. God can gain glory from both your success and your struggles, but how you carry yourself in either state is the true reflection of your spiritual age.
2. Eliminate the Mockery
Mocking is completely foreign to the nature of Yahua Elohiym. God never attacks with ridicule, contempt, or derision. He takes absolutely no pleasure in mimicry or painful reminders of a person’s fallen state. Mockery is a demonic mutation born from a fallen world. When you treat the less fortunate with contempt, you are acting the least like God and actively defiling His image within yourself.
3. The Mobile Manifestation
You are a walking, breathing opportunity for others to encounter Christ. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 4:10 that we “always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.” This means you don’t compromise with sin or tolerate injustice, but you also refuse to get a “high” off of someone else’s mishap. Rejoicing at another’s misfortune—no matter how much they deserved it—short-circuits your witness and invites the disciplinary hand of God.

Today’s Declaration:

“I am resigning from the ‘Gloat Squad’ today! I refuse to validate my own position by celebrating someone else’s pain. I acknowledge the Imago Dei in every person I meet, and I will not insult the Creator by mocking His creation. I guard my tongue, I monitor my witness, and I choose to reflect the character of Christ in my prosperity and in my perspective!”

Don’t build your throne on someone else’s grave—mercy always outlives mockery. Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
