The Envy Expose

Proverbs 23:17-18 (NLT)
“[17] Don’t envy sinners, but always continue to fear the LORD. [18] For surely you have a future ahead of you; your hope will not be disappointed.”

The Mirage of the Market

Here is a strategic spiritual warning: Sinners do not have hope. In the economy of the Kingdom, hope is not a wish; it is the absolute confidence of knowing that no trial of today can separate you from the victory of tomorrow. The sinner possesses zero assurance of ultimate victory. Therefore, envying, wishing for, or imitating the lifestyle of the wicked is a senseless, futile exercise.
What the world displays is a fleeting mirage that can never satisfy the human soul. The immediate, cheap pleasures and rapid gains of sin cannot begin to compare to the generational hope that flows from the fear of the Lord. Those who get wealth quickly through compromise will lose it just as fast. But those who hold fast to the Lord gain everything that matters and lose only what they never needed in the first place! Your future is guaranteed by the King; stop trading your eternal equity for a temporary exhibit.

The Practice:

Blinding the Green-Eyed Monster

1. Enforce Absolute Dependency
Put your entire weight and trust in the Lord (Proverbs 3:5-6). Just as a child is fully and safely dependent on a parent for food, shelter, and direction, the believer must be completely dependent on the Lord without reservation. If you are leaning on your own understanding, you are leaning on a broken crutch.
2. Surrender the Steering Wheel
Hand over the “wheel” of your life to the Holy Spirit’s will and let Him drive. Stop trying to navigate from the passenger seat. Allow God to completely steer, direct, and veto your choices and your actions. He sees the roadblocks ahead that you cannot see, and He will never lead your life into a disappointment at the end of the road.
3. Kill the Stare-and-Compare Cycle
Stop staring at other people’s stuff! The enemy’s trap is predictable: first you stare, then you compare, and finally you despair. This toxic path is rooted in deep spiritual insecurity—a functional belief that God is not sufficient and that He alone is not able to sustain you. It leads directly to jealousy, envy, and total self-destruction. Turn your eyes off their lawn and start watering your own assignment.
4. Weaponize Your Reverence
Reverence the Lord in every single square inch of your life. Choose to deliberately pull Him into every boardroom, every relationship, every financial decision, and every secret deed. Cultivate a burning desire to know Him better today than you did yesterday. High reverence leaves no room for cheap envy.

Today’s Declaration:

“I am resigning from the ‘Envy Committee’ today! I refuse to look at the fleeting wealth or lifestyles of sinners and call it success. I am pulling my eyes off other people’s stuff and locking my gaze onto the Lord. I surrender the steering wheel of my life to the Holy Spirit, I enforce absolute dependency on the Word, and I rest in the rock-solid promise that my future hope will NEVER be disappointed!”

The sinner has a temporary lease, but the saint has an eternal inheritance. Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
