Proverbs 21:2 (NLT)
“People may think they are doing what is right, but the LORD examines the heart.”
The Limit of Human Sight
Isn’t this the truth? Most of us truly believe we are doing the right thing. We mean well, but “meaning well” is a human standard, not a divine one. A person may think nothing is wrong with their ways, but the LORD knows what is actually under the surface.
We are limited by the external. We see the smile, the handshake, and the resume. But God weighs the heart—the true motives and the secret intents. Because God is all-present and all-knowing, He sees the “why” behind the “what.” This is why it pays to pray without ceasing; God knows the heart of the person you are dealing with, and He knows yours as well.
The Practice
Sifting your Intentions
1. Align the Motive, Not Just the Action
It is not enough to mean well; you must ensure your motives are pleasing to God. To do this, you must make the pursuit and practice of godliness your first priority. Allow your intentions to be filtered and sifted by the Word. If your heart’s intent doesn’t line up with His Will, the action is void of His favor.
2. Democracy is Not a Kingdom Principle
Just because everyone thinks it’s a good idea doesn’t make it a God-idea. Crowd approval does not move or dictate the Father. We must realize that the Kingdom of God is not a democracy; it is a Monarchy. Jesus Christ is counter-culture. If you are waiting for a majority vote to follow God’s will, you will be waiting forever. Resist the need for group approval and be comfortable with the “uncomfortable” path of the Spirit.
3. The Discipline of the “Thumbs Up”
Be willing to wait on the Lord. Great success is reserved for those who have the discipline to be still. If God has not given a “thumbs up,” do not move!
* You might like them, but that doesn’t make them a “keeper.”
* The job might seem perfect, but God sees the toxicity you can’t.
* The loan might look like a “fix-all,” but God knows it’s a snare.
Wait on the Lord, and be prepared for whatever answer He gives.
Today’s Declaration
“I surrender my ‘good intentions’ for God’s divine instructions. I will not be moved by crowd approval or my own limited sight. I choose to wait for the Father’s ‘thumbs up’ before I make a move, trusting that He sees the heart and knows the end from the beginning.”
Your heart is the only part of you God is listening to. Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
