Proverbs 17:3 (NLT)
“Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but the LORD tests the heart.”
The Management of the Fire
Untested faith cannot be relied upon or trusted as genuine. Every believer’s heart will be subjected to the “heat” of life. Solomon compares this process to the intense fire used to purify precious metals. In the furnace, the impurities (the dross) rise to the top so they can be removed, leaving only what is pure and valuable.
We must get this right: All trials are not brought on by the devil. Testing and trials are within the realm and management of God Himself. This is why James tells us to “count it all joy” when we meet trials of various kinds. God isn’t trying to break you; He is trying to purify you. Trials are the tool He uses to align your beliefs with His reality.
The Privilege of the Process
Testing is a privilege, not a punishment. The heat is necessary to make you better and to propel you toward God’s intended purpose for your life. As Romans 5:3-5 reminds us, suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope. You aren’t being picked on; you are being prepared.
The Practice:
Enduring the Heat
1. Rejoice in the Growth, Not the Groan
Change your perspective on the process. Instead of groaning about the “regiment” of the struggle, learn to rejoice in the growth it is producing. If the fire is hot, it’s because the gold is valuable.
2. Intensify the Pursuit
When you are under pressure, do not back away from God. This is the time to intensify your pursuit of godliness. Lean into the Word and the Spirit. Let the heat drive you closer to the Refiner, not further away from the Flame.
3. The Privilege of the Name
Praise God for the privilege of being tested for Christ’s sake. If the world and the enemy didn’t see the “Jesus” in you, they wouldn’t bother trying to test your heart. Your test is a sign of your significance.
4. Eyes on the Testimony
Ask God to help you see past the immediate pain of the test so you can rejoice in the coming testimony. The fire is temporary, but the purity it produces is eternal. You are coming out as pure gold!
Today’s Declaration:
“I will not fear the furnace, for the Refiner is with me. I recognize that my trials are managed by God for my growth and His glory. I choose to rejoice in the process, knowing that the heat is only removing what is not of Him. I am coming through this fire purer, stronger, and ready for my purpose!”
God only puts His fire on what He intends to keep. Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
