Proverbs 21:3 (NLT)
“The LORD is more pleased when we do what is just and right than when we give him sacrifices.”
The Religious Hustle
God is not like man; He cannot be conned, and He will not be hustled. Our pride often convinces us that if we sacrifice enough, give enough, or “do” enough, it will somehow cover the fact that we aren’t doing what He actually asked us to do.
God is not a gambler, and He doesn’t work on a “point system.” Two “right” acts don’t erase a “wrong” one. In fact, God can bless your obedience in one area and still allow you to suffer the consequences of your disobedience in another—at the same time! Coming to church, tithing, and giving are vital biblical disciplines, but they are never an excuse for poor character or bad choices. Likewise, reading your Bible at home doesn’t excuse you from being an active part of the Body. God doesn’t want your rituals; He wants your relationship.
The Practice:
Living the Requirement
As Micah 6:8 reminds us, the Lord has already told us what is good and what He requires: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with Him. To move from sacrifice to obedience, we must:
1. Seek Constant Alignment
Seek to do the right thing all the time, not just when people are watching. This goes beyond your words. Take the time to ensure your actions align with God’s Will through prayer, wise counsel, and a deep study of the Word. Don’t move until you’re sure you’re on His path.
2. Reject the Compromise
Refuse to yield to complacency. Stop looking for “new ways” to worship and expecting God to accept them. God didn’t ask for sage, special clothes, or “mind-altering” shortcuts; He asked for your heart. Worship Him the way He instructed, period. Stop trying to rationalize your way out of His requirements.
3. Own Your Errors
When you use poor judgment, admit it immediately. Confess it, repent, and move on. Leave the mistake at the altar and get back to the work He assigned you. Perfection isn’t the goal; persistence in the right direction is.
4. Break the Silence
Share your struggles and your victories with other faithful believers. We are far too quiet! You know the storms you’ve come through and the challenges you’re facing. Open your mouth! Sometimes, your transparency is the very key to someone else’s breakthrough—and your own.
Today’s Declaration:
“I am resigning from the religious hustle. I refuse to offer sacrifices as a cover-up for disobedience. I choose to do what is just and right today, loving mercy and walking humbly with my God. I am trading my rituals for a real relationship, trusting that my simple obedience is the most pleasing thing I can offer the King.”
God is looking for your ‘Yes,’ not just your ‘Gift.’ Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
