Proverbs 10:4 (NRSV)
“A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.”
Intensity vs. Consistency
The book of Proverbs is replete with these poignant, contrasting ideas. Stated simply: The undisciplined person will never be successful. A person who is lazy or lacks a work ethic produces nothing but poverty. However, the hand that is consistent and deliberate makes great gains.
We often make the mistake of valuing intensity over consistency. But weight is not lost through a single intense workout; it is lost through consistent discipline. Wealth is not built through one big check; it is built through consistent stewardship. Strong marriages and successful parenting aren’t the result of one grand gesture; they are the result of consistently putting in the right work. Pursuing Godliness will always bring great gain, but you must actually pursue it. There is no excuse for not doing the right thing, the right way, for the right reason, and for God’s glory. Not one!
The Practice:
The “Let’s GO” Protocol
1. The “Don’t Quit” Mandate
That’s it. Don’t quit. You might fail, but don’t quit. You might “blow it” or screw things up, but do not stop. Diligence isn’t about being perfect; it’s about being persistent. If you remain diligent in seeking God and His will, the “richness” of His presence will eventually outweigh the “poverty” of your mistakes.
2. The Cognitive Transformation
Be transformed! Romans 12:2 challenges us not to be conformed to this world’s mold, but to be transformed by the renewal of our thinking. The world’s definition of success is the polar opposite of God’s. Money and “stuff” aren’t success. Godliness is success. Achieving God’s specific intent for your life—that is the only success that lasts. Change your definition, and you’ll change your destination.
3. Fess Up and Move Up: LET’S GO!
Whatever yesterday was, it is in the past. It’s time to Let Go and Let’s GO! Today is the only day you actually have. Yes, you will stumble, but keep pressing forward. Don’t let your “screw up” become a “sit down.” Confess it, learn from it, and then pick up the pace. Let’s GO!
Today’s Declaration:
“I am trading my ‘slack hand’ for a ‘diligent heart.’ I refuse to rely on temporary intensity; I am committing to daily consistency. I am redefining success according to God’s Word, and I am letting go of yesterday’s failures to embrace today’s ‘Let’s GO’ momentum. I am pressing toward the mark of my high calling!”
Intensity starts the race, but Consistency wins it. Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
