Proverbs 4:9 (NLT)
“She will place a lovely wreath on your head; she will present you with a beautiful crown.”
The Adornment of the Wise
Who is the “She” in this text? Wisdom. There is nothing more valuable to seek or gain than Wisdom. It is of supreme worth, and it is worth every ounce of the struggle required to obtain it.
When you put in the work to pursue Wisdom, she responds by adorning you with splendor and glory. In today’s culture, we are so quick to dye, cover up, and eliminate our gray hair. Yet, Holy Scripture celebrates those adorned with this silver wreath. The modern campaign to “erase the aging” has ushered in a disdain for the elderly, writing off the very people who hold the keys to our success. We must realize that Wisdom doesn’t just make you “smart”; it makes you distinguished.
The Practice:
Wearing the Crown
1. Choose Wisdom over Wishful Thinking
Success comes consistently to those who seek Wisdom and search out wise counsel. It is easy to “wish” for a breakthrough and foolishly take shortcuts, but wishful thinking has no foundation. Those who are willing to labor in the Word and be patient with the process will receive the great reward. Stop wishing for a win and start working for the Wisdom that guarantees it.
2. The Promise of the Winner’s Circle
Wisdom makes a claim that very few things in this world can: she promises Victory and Success. Wisdom will adorn your head with the winner’s rewards, bringing you a victory that lasts—not just in this temporary life, but in the life to come. If you want a crown that won’t rust and a wreath that won’t wither, you must pursue the Wisdom of God.
3. The Priority of the Return
Saturate your life with a commitment to God and His Word. Make Him first. The priority you give Wisdom is the exact return you can expect on your life. If you put Wisdom first, victory is assured. If you place the pursuit of Wisdom second to your own ambitions, you are setting yourself up for failure. You cannot have the “Crown” if you aren’t committed to the “Counsel.”
Today’s Declaration:
“I am resigning from the cult of the ‘shortcut’ today! I refuse to let the world devalue the gray hair and the deep wisdom of my elders. I am choosing the labor of seeking Wisdom over the vanity of wishful thinking. I am making the Word my first priority, and I trust Wisdom to crown my life with long-lasting victory!”
Wisdom doesn’t just change your mind; she changes your stature. Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
