Proverbs 1:5-6 (NLT)
“Let those who are wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those who understand receive guidance by exploring the depth of meaning in these proverbs, parables, wise sayings, and riddles.”
Don’t Be Petty!
In a Kingdom context, “petty” isn’t just a slur; it’s an urgent call to grow. To be petty means to remain simple-minded—to stay in a shallow pool when the ocean of God’s wisdom is right in front of you. This is different from being a “fool” who hates learning; it is simply the choice to remain unlearned and without understanding.
God is calling you to a lifelong affair with Wisdom. This is not a “one-night stand” with a single verse or a Sunday sermon; it is a commitment to remain coachable for the rest of your life. Life’s lessons are everywhere—in the words of an elderly master, the curiosity of a child, a successful venture, or even a failed plan. As long as you have breath in your lungs, you must be available to grow. Staying where you are when God has called you higher is, quite frankly, petty!
The Practice:
Moving into the “Greater”
1. The Humility Elevation
Humility is the only elevator that goes up. To elevate from pettiness, you must submit your will and your emotions to God’s design. A petty person is ruled by how they feel; a wise person is ruled by what God said. Submission isn’t losing your voice; it’s finding God’s power.
2. Commitment vs. Compliance
Stop just “complying” and start committing. Compliance is insincere; it’s doing just enough to get by while keeping an “escape hatch” open to return to your old self. Commitment, however, slams the back door shut. It is the choice to be “sold out” to godliness. God wants you all in—only then will you receive the “great gain” He has in store for you.
3. The Parakletos Protocol
Make yourself coachable. The Holy Spirit is your Parakletos—the One who comes alongside to help. God will always send you the help you need precisely when you need it, but you must be willing to receive it. If you think you know it all, you’ve already capped your own potential.
4. Expect the “Exceedingly”
Let God out of the box of your comprehension! Quit hanging onto your small ideas, your tiny wishes, and your meager wants. To an Omnipotent God, your “big plans” are just petty. Dare to step into the “Exceedingly Abundantly” (Ephesians 3:20). When you let go of your “way,” you make room for His “Greater.”
Today’s Declaration:
“I am resigning from a petty life today! I refuse to stay simple-minded or stuck in my own small ideas. I am choosing a lifelong affair with Wisdom, closing every escape hatch to my old self, and committing to be fully coachable by the Holy Spirit. I am stepping out of the shallow and into the ‘Exceedingly Abundantly’ of God!”
Your ‘Greater’ is waiting on the other side of your ‘Petty.’ Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
