The Discipline of Choice

Proverbs 8:5 (NLT)
“How naive you are! Let me give you common sense. O foolish ones, let me give you understanding.”

This or That?

The group Black Sheep had it right when they penned the lyrics: “You can get with this, or you can get with that… the choice is yours.” Every single day, you are presented with a fork in the road. You can seek the “Easy Path” of immediate gratification, or you can seek the “Enduring Path” of Wisdom.
The Lord desires to give you common sense, prudence, and understanding—but these treasures only come to those who resist the lure of the “Quick Fix.” Human nature cries out for immediate relief; we want to be happy, and we want it right now. But look around: how many people are drowning in debt, struggling with their health, or rebounding from wrecked relationships simply because they lacked the discipline that life requires? No one wants to endure the struggle that precedes success, but without the discipline of the “No,” you will never have the authority of the “Yes.” God wants to give you abundance, but abundance without Wisdom is just a well-funded disaster.

The Practice:

Cultivating the “Winner” Habit**

1. The Habit of the Hunt
Your success hinges entirely on your habits. Discipline isn’t a feeling; it’s a decision you make when you don’t feel like it. Start today by creating “God-pursuing” habits. Commit to reading one chapter of Proverbs—or even just one verse—every single morning. When you hunt for Wisdom daily, foolishness loses its appetite for your life.
2. The “Fall Forward” Philosophy
Stop beating yourself up over your yesterdays. Yes, you fell down. Yes, you might stumble again. But the ground is no place for a winner! Choose to “Fall Forward.” Every pitfall is a lesson if you refuse to stay in the pit. God wants to uphold and empower you, but He can’t steer a heart that refuses to get back in the race. Keep pressing toward the mark!
3. From Naive to Notified
It is okay to start naive—we all do. But it is a choice to stay that way. Infuse your life with tools, resources, and people who are further down the road than you. Surround yourself with those who can aid in your becoming better. Wisdom is a shared treasure; find a mentor, open the Book, and choose to be “notified” by the Spirit.

Today’s Declaration:

“I am choosing ‘This’ over ‘That’ today. I refuse the easy path of immediate gratification and I embrace the discipline of Godly Wisdom. I am falling forward out of my past and into my purpose. I am trading my ‘naive’ mind for His ‘common sense,’ and I trust that my new habits will lead to my greatest harvest!”

You can’t have a ‘Disciplined Life’ with ‘Undisciplined Habits.’ Today is a greatday to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
