The Habit of Holiness

Proverbs 7:2-3 (NLT)
“Obey them and live! Guard my teachings as your most precious possession. Tie them on your fingers as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart.”

The Source of Life

We are commanded to keep God’s teaching to live. We must realize that the Word is the one thing we literally cannot live without. God’s Word should be followed as the very source of life itself. Solomon tells us to tie these truths on our fingers. Imagine the strangeness of having the Word physically written on your fingertips then; now, consider that we literally have the Word at our fingertips every day via phones and tablets.
There is no excuse. God’s Word will keep you from doing “stupid,” period. When we act in error or foolishness, it is a function of either ignorance or “spiritual insanity”—both of which stem from not heeding the Word. In this climate, you cannot escape temptation by your own strength; you must hide the Word—actively storing it in your heart—DAILY. No exceptions.

The Practice

From Hands to Heart

Most of what your hands do throughout the day are habits performed without a second thought. To truly live, God’s Word must become your primary habit and your daily practice until it becomes your “new natural.” It is a four-stage process of transformation:
 * Hear the Word: Position yourself to listen.
 * Believe the Word: Accept it as absolute Truth.
 * Become the Word: Let it alter your identity.
 * Obey the Word: Let it drive your activity.
1. Transition from Option to Necessity
You must make your time before the Lord a need rather than an option. There is no other way to maintain a holy life unless you hide the Word in your heart (Psalm 119:11). If you treat your quiet time as an “extra,” you will treat your character as “optional.”
2. The “Precious Possession” Test
Think of something you own that is truly special—something you would tear the whole house apart to find if it went missing. That is the level of urgency we must have for God’s instruction. If you can go a whole day without the Word and not feel like you’ve “lost” something vital, your priorities need a Fresh Start.

Today’s Declaration

“I am moving God’s Word from my fingertips to my heart. I refuse to live another day by my own ‘spiritual insanity’ or ignorance. I hide the Word today so that I might live today. I will Hear, Believe, Become, and Obey until holiness is my new nature.”

The Word is only a weapon if it’s in your heart, not just on your screen. Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
