Proverbs 9:6 (NLT)
“Leave your foolish ways behind, and begin to live; learn how to be wise.”
The Constant Motion of Go
To truly live is to be in a constant mode of listening, leaving, and learning. Our God is progressive; He is in constant motion. When we read “In the beginning, God…” we must realize that God is the Verb of that sentence! He is life in its fullness, and it is in Him that we live, move, and have our being (Acts 17:28).
But here is the catch: you cannot step into that motion until you are willing to leave some things behind. You must let go of the people and the habits that do not encourage righteousness. You must abandon the “feel-good” distractions that refuse to challenge your growth. You must surrender the thought patterns that keep your focus off the Father. Learning God’s way requires admitting that your way is not the only way—and His way is always better.
The Practice:
Activating the Life
1. Trace the Belief
Your behavior always follows your beliefs. Faulty, ungodly behaviors are simply the fruit of faulty, off-centered beliefs. Stop wasting energy beating yourself up over the “fruit” (the behavior) and start asking the Holy Spirit to reveal the “root” (the belief). When you change what you believe about God and yourself, your actions will align automatically.
2. Issue the Request
Wisdom is not just “lying around” waiting to be stumbled upon. You must request it! James 1:5 promises that if you need wisdom, you can ask our generous God and He will give it to you without rebuke. He wants you to have it, but He requires you to acknowledge that you don’t have it on your own.
3. Tangle Yourself in His Affairs
Stop just “existing” and start living. Waiting on God is not a static, sit-still activity; it means to be actively “tangling yourself up” in His business. Instead of being busy with your own agenda, get busy with His! Find out where God is moving and jump into the flow.
4. The “Peter” Principle: Fall Forward
Get excited! The enemy is terrified that you are about to discover your true purpose. Be like Peter: get out of the boat! Yes, you might stumble; yes, you might mess some things up—but be “guilty” of pressing toward the mark of the high calling. It’s better to fail while walking on water than to succeed at sitting in a sinking boat.
Today’s Declaration:
“I am moving from ‘Existence’ to ‘Excellence.’ I choose to leave my foolish ways and my faulty beliefs at the shore as I step into the flow of God’s purpose. I am tangling myself up in His affairs today, trusting His wisdom over my own logic. I am getting out of the boat and pressing toward the mark!”
God is a Verb—if you aren’t moving, you aren’t following. Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
