Proverbs 7:4 (NRSV)
“Say to wisdom, ‘You are my sister,’ and call insight your intimate friend.”
The Anatomy of Intimacy
In the ancient context, “sister” was a term of deep, covenant intimacy—often used to describe a spouse. Solomon isn’t telling you to merely know about Wisdom; he is telling you to marry her. There should be nothing between you and Wisdom. You are called to be entangled with Understanding, woven so tightly into God’s desire for your life that the two of you move as one.
This is not a casual or common connection. Wisdom and Understanding are precious, rare, and hard to obtain. They require a “treasure hunter” mentality. As Proverbs 2:2-4 commands, you must tune your ears, cry out for insight, and search for them like you’re looking for lost money or hidden gold. Consider your current results: To what are you tuning your ears daily? To be more intimate with anything—a career, a person, or a hobby—than you are with Yehusha HaMachiach** (Jesus the Messiah) is a setup for destruction.
The Practice:
Cultivating the Connection
1. S.A.Y. YES
Use the S.A.Y. protocol every morning: Surrender your ego, Accept His truth, and Yield to the Master’s perfect will. Choose His direction over culture, convenience, and the “collective consent” of the crowd. Wisdom will not force herself on you; you must intentionally affix your head, heart, and hands to her.
2. The Imitation of Giving
Giving is the ultimate imitation of our Father in Heaven. It opens avenues of blessing that a closed fist can never reach. Remember, giving isn’t just about your money; it’s about your Time, Talent, and Treasure. When you give of yourself, you create space for Wisdom to move in.
3. Stop the “Squeeze”
Stop trying to “squeeze” God into the gaps of your busy schedule. He is not a side-dish; He is the Source. Matthew 6:33 is a command, not a suggestion: Seek Him FIRST. Do this through disciplined prayer and a rigorous study of His Word before the world gets a chance to distract you.
4. The Character of “Be”
Be thankful. Gratitude is the atmosphere where Wisdom grows. Be thankful for the successes that encourage you and the failures that refine you. Both are necessary to develop your character and draw you closer to your “sister” Wisdom and your intimate relative, Understanding.
Today’s Declaration:
“I am entering into a sacred entanglement with Wisdom today. I refuse to keep God’s Word at a distance. I choose to S.A.Y. Yes to His will over my convenience, and I am moving Him from the ‘gaps’ of my day to the ‘goal’ of my life. I am thankful for the process, knowing that every challenge is drawing me closer to the heart of Understanding!”
You can’t have a ‘casual’ relationship with Wisdom and expect ‘covenant’ results. Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
