Proverbs 2:4 (NLT)
“Search for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure.”
Stop Waiting, Start Digging
This proverb belongs to a powerful collection of verses addressing the absolute necessity of wisdom and understanding. We are not just invited to “receive” them; we are admonished to search for them. This implies significant effort. You need Wisdom. You need Understanding. But they will not simply fall into your lap while you sit idle.
Wisdom is available and accessible, but it is neither cheap nor common. You must strain and strive for it. When you put your primary effort into this search, you will watch the fire God has placed within you begin to ignite. Society says to chase success—that is a false and unfulfilling pursuit. When you chase Wisdom and Understanding, success will eventually chase you.
The Practice
Searching with Intent
1. The Revelation of Reverence
When you search, you will truly understand what it means to fear the LORD. To “fear” Him is to revere Him above all else. You begin to realize that He alone is worthy of your full, undivided attention.
2. The Intimacy of Knowledge
You will gain the knowledge of God. It is your life’s mission to know Jesus better and better. Do you know what pleases Him? Do you know what moves His heart or what He desires from you? You only find these answers in the deep places of the Word.
3. The Gift of “Good Sense”
The pursuit of Wisdom trumps the value of any other thing you are looking for in life. One of the greatest “dividends” of this investment is Good Sense. God grants you the ability to make wise decisions and engage in godly critical thinking that keeps you ahead of the curve.
4. The Divine Shield
Wisdom isn’t just for your intellect; it’s for your protection. God promises to be your shield and refuge. This search protects you from ills known and unknown—guarding not just your “now,” but your entire future.
Today’s Declaration
“I am no longer a casual observer; I am a passionate pursuer of Wisdom. I refuse to chase the shadow of success when I can hunt for the substance of Understanding. I commit to digging into the Word like it’s hidden treasure, knowing that in the finding, I will find the very heart of God.”
You will only find what you are willing to look for. Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
