The Verbal Body Count

Proverbs 12:6 (NLT)
“The words of the wicked are like a murderous ambush, but the words of the godly save lives.”

The Power of the Ambush

Of all God’s creation, only mankind was gifted with words. They are powerful tools that can literally kill or save. Ask yourself today: What is my verbal body count? How many people have we “killed” with the words of our mouths? Whether spoken hastily, ignorantly, or with crass insensitivity, our words can act as a murderous ambush.
An ambush is a surprise attack that the victim never saw coming. It’s a concealed lie or a sarcastic comment that saps the strength of the listener instantly. Even the “I didn’t mean it” apology after a verbal strike is often just another part of the ambush. On the flip side, we’ve all felt the power of restoration when the right person says the right thing at the right time. Our words are either a trap or a bridge. Right now, our next generation is in danger because they aren’t hearing the truth of their design; they are being ambushed by a world that wants to silence their purpose. It is time to stop the ambush and start the rescue.

The Practice:

Strategic Speech

1. The  Alignment Filter
Before you open your mouth, you must think twice and speak once. Apply a filter to your next sentence: Will this word edify or end the person? Will it bring help or hell? If your words are not in agreement with God’s words then don’t say them.
2. Mastering the Clock
In communication, timing is everything. You can have the “right” words, but if they are delivered at the “wrong” time, they still function as an ambush. Ask yourself the hard question: Does this person need to hear this, or do I just feel the need to say it? Being aware of that difference is the hallmark of a Christ centered communicator.
3. The Rescue Mission
Who can you save with your words TODAY? There are people stuck exactly where your last negative word left them. It’s time to go back and carry out a rescue mission. Where did you mess up that you need to fess up? A simple word of truth or a sincere request for forgiveness can be the very thing that pulls someone out of the pit you helped dig.
4. Deliver, Don’t Destroy
Make the conscious choice to be a deliverer. Your powerful ancestry didn’t survive for you to be a verbal sniper; they survived so you could speak life and empowerment. Use God’s truth to adulate and advance those around you.

Today’s Declaration:

“I am resigning from the ‘Ambush Squad’ today! I refuse to use my words as weapons of destruction or sarcastic traps. I am taking responsibility for my ‘verbal body count’ and choosing to speak words that save, restore, and empower. My mouth is a tool for the Kingdom, my timing is under the Holy Spirit’s control, and I am choosing to deliver, not destroy!”

Your mouth is a fountain or a firing squad—choose life! Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
