The Voice of the Father

Proverbs 4:4 (NRSV)
“He taught me, and said to me, ‘Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live.’”

The Muted Voice

You can’t tell anyone anything today. In this current climate, the father’s voice is the most muted and discounted voice in the airwaves. I meet so many people who are angry with their fathers. Society has lost its respect for the father’s voice, which makes it incredibly hard to hear him. But wisdom always has a source.
Solomon is reciting a lesson he learned from his father, David. It’s a generational hand-off. I taught my own children: “When there is a difference between what I told you and what someone else told you, believe me!” Where did I learn that? From my father. And then I saw it right here in this verse. David told Solomon, “If you want to live, you’ve got to hear me. Let your heart hold fast to what I’m telling you.”
The Life Commandment
God’s Word is non-negotiable. If you want to live, you don’t get to reserve the right to “do it differently.” The question isn’t whether the commandments are true—the question is, do you want to live? Do you want to experience the fullness your life was intended for? Do you want to reach your full potential? Then you must hold fast.

The Practice

Healing the Ear

1. Forgive the father to hear THE Father
The grudge, the hurt, the failure… you have to let it go. It isn’t easy, and it might even be painful, but it must be done. Unforgiveness toward your earthly father serves as a “frequency jammer” that hinders you from hearing your Heavenly Father clearly—or at all. Clear the line so you can hear the Lead.
2. The Cycle of Becoming
Hear, Believe, Become, Obey. This is a process. In order to obey, you first have to hear so that you might believe and eventually become. This doesn’t happen by accident; it requires intentional time in Scripture, prayer, and worship. You can’t obey a voice you don’t recognize.
3. Your Past is Fuel, Not a Filter
Start living! Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Your past is not your focus; it’s your fuel. Whether your father was great or not-so-great, they still gave you what you needed to be amazing—because you’re here! Use the history to power your destiny. Stop looking back and start looking up.

Today’s Declaration

“I choose to honor the voice of the Father. I release the hurt of my past and forgive my earthly lineage so I can hear my Heavenly legacy. I will not negotiate with the Word; I will hold it fast in my heart. I choose to obey so that I may truly live.”

The Father’s instruction isn’t a suggestion; it’s your life support. Today is a great day to make a Fresh Start!
God bless,
